YirmeyahuResearch Seminar

Exegesis and Theology of the Book of Jeremiah

2023-2024

Born in 2021, the “Yirmeyahu” Research Seminar deals with all questions concerning the exegesis and theology of the book of Jeremiah. It is hosted by the Céres Research Unit of the Institut Catholique de Toulouse (France) in collaboration with the Leopold-Franzens-Universität of Innsbruck (Austria) and the Radboud University of Nijmegen (Netherlands). Under the direction of Cyprien Comte (ICT), Georg Fischer SJ (UIBK) and Carly L. Crouch (RU), it brings together researchers affiliated to different universities in Europe and the world (in 2021-2022: North America, Africa and Madagascar, Middle East) and possibly independent scholars. The majority of its members hold a doctorate in biblical studies, theology or an equivalent discipline. Doctoral and master’s students may join the work of the seminar on a regular or episodic basis. The aim of the seminar is to stimulate research on the book of Jeremiah and to provide a platform for presenting research and discussing contested positions.

The first “Yirmeyahu” Research Seminar of the 2023-2024 academic year is scheduled for Tuesday 10 October 2023 at 4:15 PM CET.

For any information, please contact Cyprien Comte (ICT) at the following address: yirmeyahu.31@gmail.com

The working sessions are organized online or during biblical congresses (EABS 2022 in Toulouse, 2023 in Syracuse, 2024 Sofia) and focus on current or recently published research. Seminar participants agree not to publish the results presented by other researchers, since academic ethics and honesty are essential for all.

No later than one week before the meetings, those presenting their work should provide a well-structured page with the most important results and main theses. A publication/article can be attached to this, to broaden the reflection. The presentations themselves, ideally, last 10-15 minutes to allow for a wider discussion. Each presentation is given in English or French, with questions in other languages as appropriate.
